These last few days have been absolutely overwhelming and has veered me off my path of eating healthily. I've been trying to stop drinking alcohol and these last few days there has been a glass or two (drinking one now!). What may be the reason of this change? It may be dumb one, but I've been dog-sitting my sisters dog, a 5 month old cavapoo.  This little creature has more energy than I can handle at this time with so many school assignments due this week, on top of working. I also thought there was going to be more help from my mom, but she decided to go with my sister to the Dominican Republic for the week.

Anyways, the main reason for this blog is to share my days in weekly posts in a way that I'm not fully able to share with all my family, yet. I hope to also share recipes of foods that are delicious and healthy in the next post. Let me know of any recipes to try!

The Start

This marks the beginning on my journey in trying to conceive as a solo mom by choice (SMBC). Not many in my family know yet of this journey, only my mom and sister. I've told a couple of friends, and all have been very supportive.

In my searches it has been hard trying to find not only blogs of vegan pregnancies but also as a SMBC. I'm 35 years-old and have dated a couple of times, one that lasted nearly a year. Dating now during a pandemic has been difficult, or rather, non-existent for me. I work full-time and go to university part-time and the thought of also trying to cultivate a relationship in order to form the family I truly want...it doesn't feel that time is on my side to go that route.

My hopes for this blog is to give another perspective of a woman trying to form a loving family in her own way. I understand that some have there opinions on this choice, but know that this child will be wanted and loved immensely. This choice wasn't taken lightly. I know there will be challenges, but I'm also lucky in knowing that I have family and friends that are supportive in this choice.

November is three months out from when I would like to start trying to conceive (TTC). I've already been to a fertility doctor and have done all the testing needed, and physically all looks okay. Genetically though I'm a carrier of a few genes, a major one being a silent carrier for spinal muscular atrophy. I will further talk to a genetic counselor to make sure that when I choose a donor sperm they are not positive for the same genes that I carry. This month I will also start making better food choices, making sure added sugar is near zero, green smoothies in the morning and more freshly cooked dinners. I will also make sure to increase my activity level and exercise at least 30 minutes 3-5 days a week, and hopefully increasing a bit each week.

I hope to meet others on this journey as we could share experiences with one another.
